Who I Am

My name is Ruth Sheeran. I hold an Honours Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy (ICHAS). I am a fully accredited member of the  NAPCP and I am committed to maintaining the highest professional and ethical standards in practice.

I have a background in complimentary therapies, and it was in this role I first began to engage with people professionally on a deeper level. I observed firsthand that people often just need time and space outside of their busy lives to stop, reflect and find meaning in their lives. Life for many becomes a roller coaster of stresses and strains that carry ups and downs, and these can take a toll on people’s overall health and wellbeing. It was listening to clients relate these concerns that encouraged me to expand my expertise and to pursue the academic requirements and begin a career in counselling and psychotherapy.

I have a personal and professional passion in supporting the growth and development of my own and others physical, emotional, mental health and wellbeing. I am eternally grateful to the clients I have worked with as both a complimentary therapist and a counsellor psychotherapist, as they have encouraged the further development of my naturally empathetic and compassionate nature. I am especially passionate about assisting individuals living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I have provided counselling and psychotherapy support for many living with the condition and have been an active participant in the delivery of webinars “MS The unspeakable bits” on a number of occasions. I have also provided charitable counselling and psychotherapy work for Saint Catherine's counselling service.

Outside of the work area my dedication to health and wellbeing continues. I have two dogs that keep me actively busy and out in nature “which are two of my favourite things”. I have a keen interest in meditation and mindfulness and I regularly attend events to expand my knowledge on the subjects. I enjoy personally attending complimentary therapies to create time and space for myself and my own personal self-care. I love to read and find crafting to be therapeutic and enjoyable. I engage in writing practices which include the writing of my own poetry as I also find these therapeutic. I thrive to maintain the ability to collaborate with others. This has supported me to work seamlessly with a diverse range of professionals in both the community and private sectors more importantly this ensures the provision of cohesive support for my clients.
